About this trip:
Join Kindling Collective and Inclusive Ski Touring for a Queer Ski Touring day at Mt. Abram. All ability levels are welcome; this event is open to new skiers/snowboarders (including folks who have never skied before!) and experienced skiers/snowboarders alike. Participants will head uphill on the Easy Rider uphill route at Mt. Abram. The route is approximately 1.5 miles (2.4 kilometers) long and includes a vertical gain of about 1,000 feet (305 meters). New skiers/riders will break off from the more experienced group and be instructed in how to safely transition and descend. More experienced skiers and riders will descend on blue square terrain.
What is ski touring? Ski touring—also known as skinning, alpine touring, split-boarding, or backcountry skiing/snowboarding— is when people travel up a mountain on skis under their own power and then ski back down. Ski touring combines the challenge of hiking up mountains with the thrill of skiing or snowboarding down. It requires specialized equipment designed for both ascent and descent. You can use your own equipment or rent equipment from the mountain, and there are some free rentals for participants for whom renting is a financial barrier.
Experience Required: Some downhill skiing or snowboarding experience is ideal. This course does not cover downhill skiing or snowboarding lessons.
